When night falls at Sam Mun Tsai Beach, every step ignites the sea into electric blue, as living plankton turn the shoreline into a glowing, otherworldly dream.

The waters off the coast of Ping Tan Island in southeast China’s Fujian were shimmering with fluorescent plankton, resembling stars falling into the sea. Popularly known as the “Blue Tears” beach is strikingly known for its dark blue that glows against the rocky beach at night. It is a must-see attraction.

The bioluminescent water glows vibrant blue at night.

The marine plankton adding to help this mystical beach glow at night. The peak period for seeing these “Blue Tears” is from April to June every year. Tiny Marine organisms emit light when disturbed, turning the water into a glowing paradise. You can create your own light by walking, swimming or even touching the water.

This must-see beach is located 128 kilometers (91 miles) from Fuzhou city, the capital of Fujian province. Ping Tan has an important strategic location and rice resources that draws in even more tourism. The vibrant blue water is best seen on dark night between 8pm and midnight. It is certainly a chance to witness natures brilliance, a truly unforgettable experience.
